Crochet TIGHT Join As You Go Method [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Learn how to crochet the TIGHT TAYG (Join As You Go) Method!

This is the join I used for my squares in the Festival Pic 'n' Mix Blanket CAL (Crochet Along)

This technique creates a perfectly flat back to your work and a beautiful twisted cord on the front - totally secure and absolutely stunning!

In the video I show you step by step, how to crochet the Tight JAYG Technique.

Watch the full step by step video tutorial below or alternatively, keep scrolling for the written pattern :)

Crochet TIGHT Join As You Go Method WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

Abbreviations:

Β·       Ch = Chain

Β·       SC = Single crochet

Β·       Rep = Repeat

Β·       St = Stitch

Pattern for Joining:

Complete the first square in its entirety. Crochet up the second square until the final round. Make sure you have the same number of stitches for the corners and along the sides for both squares.

Step One: Start the last round of the second square, completing one side and half the corner. For example, if you make (2 SC, ch 2, 2 SC) for each corner, you’ll make 2 SC, ch 1 and stop to join with the first square.

Step Two: Join to the corner of the first square with a ch 1. Work the full next st of the second square then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in the second square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. Stop after working half of the next corner (completing one side of joins.

Step Three: Ch 1 and join to the corner of the first square with a ch 1. Then finish the corner of the second square (no more joins with the first square) and continue along the remaining sides as you would normally.

Attach as many squares as you want in one row by rep these steps. Once you have all of the squares of the first row, start to build the columns.

Step One (Row 2 Onwards): After completing one side of the first square of the second row, stop when you reach the corner (before making any ch).

Step Two (Row 2 Onwards): Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the square DIAGONAL to the one you’re joining (i.e., the second square of row 1). Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the square below. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the square below. Stop after working half of the next corner (completing one side of joins).

Step Three (Column Onwards): Ch 1 and join to the corner of the square below with a ch 1. Then finish the corner of this square (no more joins with the other square) and continue along the remaining sides as you would normally.

Following the attachment of this square, every square will have to be joined by two sides.

Step Four: Work one complete side and then stop when you reach the corner (before making any ch).

Step Five: Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the square DIAGONAL to the one you’re joining.

If this is the last square of the row, you will join into the square directly below.

Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the square below. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the square below. Stop after working half of the next corner (completing one side of joins).

Step Six: Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the back of the corner space of the square DIAGONAL to the one you’re joining. Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the square next to this one. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the square next to it. Stop after working half of the next corner (completing second side of joins).

Step Seven: Ch 1 and join to the corner of the next to this one. Then finish the corner of this square (no more joins with the other square) and continue along the remaining sides as you would normally.
