For my blanket I used the Sirdar Happy Cotton Assortment Box (50 shades) - available to purchase from Lovecrafts HERE and joined using Sirdar Cotton DK in Vanilla (shade 502) with a 4mm hook.

My squares measure approximately 4 inches using the cotton yarn.

My personal blanket using the DK cotton and 4mm hook is 8 squares wide by 11 squares long - that gave me a blanket size of approximately 35 inches (89cm) by 47 inches (120cm)

The cotton is quite heavy when joined so it's a tricky one to accurately measure!

I personally made all my floral centers first and then used the Continuous Join As You Go Method for joining my squares.

If you wish to join your crochet squares AFTER you have made them, you can either sew them together or crochet them together
