Crochet Mini Grannies Granny Square WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn



Abbreviations:

Β·       Ch = Chain

Β·       SC = Single crochet

Β·       DC = Double crochet

Β·       Rep = Repeat

Β·       St = Stitch

Β·       Ch sp = Chain space

Standing Double Crochet: Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop so that there are three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over, and pull through the remaining loops.



Pattern for Square:

Make a magic ring.

Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as 1 DC and ch 2) and rep *3 DC, ch 2* three times in the magic ring. Make 2 DC and sl st to join.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Tighten the magic ring by pulling the yarn tail. Make 3 more of these mini granny squares in the colours of your choice.

Grab one of the granny squares and attach the yarn to any corner ch sp with 1 standing DC.

Round 2 (Square 1): Make (2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in the same space. Make (3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in each ch sp across. At the end of the round, sl st to join.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Grab the second granny square and attach the yarn to any corner ch sp with 1 standing DC.

Round 2 (Square 2): Make (2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in the same space. Make 3 DC in the next ch sp. Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the first square. Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. You will stop after working 3 DC and ch 2 of the next corner ch sp. Now you will work the remaining st without joining to the first square. At the end of the round, sl st to join.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Grab the third granny square and attach the yarn to any corner ch sp with 1 standing DC.

Round 2 (Square 3): Make (2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in the same space. Make 3 DC in the next ch sp. Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the first square (orienting it so that it’s either at the top or bottom). Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. You will stop after working 3 DC and ch 1 of the next corner ch sp. Pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the square DIAGONAL to the one you’re joining and ch 1. Now you will work the remaining st without joining to the first square. At the end of the round, sl st to join.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Grab the fourth granny square and attach the yarn to any corner ch sp with 1 standing DC.

Round 2 (Square 4): Make (2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in the same space. Make 3 DC in the next ch sp. Ch 1 and pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the adjacent square (orienting it so that it’s on the side). Ch 1 and make the next full st of the corner then pull the loop of yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. Continue this way along the side, working 1 st in this square and then pulling the yarn through the corresponding st of the first square. You will stop after working 3 DC and ch 1 of the next corner ch sp. Pull the loop on your hook through the corner space of the square DIAGONAL to the one you’re joining and ch 1. Now you will work the st of the next side by joining to the square ON TOP in a similar way. You will stop after working 3 DC and ch 1 of the next corner ch sp. Now you will work the remaining st without joining to the square. At the end of the round, sl st to join.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in all the ends.

Attach the yarn to any corner ch sp with 1 standing DC.

Border Round 1: Make (2 DC, ch 2, 3 DC) in the same space. In between the 3-DC clusters of the sides, make 3 DC. In the joining spaces of the sides, make 1 DC in the first space, DC2tog worked in the first and second space, 1 DC in the second space. In each corner ch sp, make (3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC). At the end of the round, sl st to join.

Border Round 2: Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same st and each st across. In each corner ch sp, make (2 SC, ch 2, 2 SC). At the end of the round, sl st to join.
