Crochet Corner to Corner C2C Granny Square [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Crochet Corner to Corner C2C Granny Square [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Learn how to crochet a Corner to Corner Granny Square with me! In this video I show you step by step how to crochet the C2C Granny Square (how to increase and decrease your corner to corner granny square) AND how to crochet a border for joining your squares into a blanket.

C2C Granny Squares have a tendency to flare and not sit squarely HOWEVER a tiny tweak to the traditional method solves this issue and I will show you how to make beautifully SQUARE squares.

Watch the full step by step video tutorial below or alternatively, keep scrolling for the written pattern :)

Crochet Corner to Corner C2C Granny Square WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

For my sample pictured in this pattern, I used Ice Yarn Lana Bella with a 5mm Hook.

Joining Yarn for Squaring off is Ice Yarn Softly Baby with a 5mm Hook (in either white or black)

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain

  • DC = Double crochet

  • EDC = Extended double crochet

  • Rep = Repeat

  • St = Stitch

  • Inc = Increase

Pattern for C2C Granny Square:

Foundation Row: Ch 4 and sl st to join.

Row 1: Ch 4 and in the circle, make 3 DC (called a granny cluster) and 1 EDC.

Row 2: Ch 4 and turn. Make 1 granny cluster in between the first and second st. Skip the granny cluster of the previous row and make 1 granny cluster and 1 EDC in the last space.

Row 3: Ch 4 and turn. Make 1 granny cluster in between the first and second st, 1 granny cluster in between the granny clusters of the previous row, and 1 granny cluster and 1 EDC in the last space to finish the row.

Row 4: Ch 4 and turn. Make 1 granny cluster in between the first and second st, 1 granny cluster in between the granny clusters of the previous row, and 1 granny cluster and 1 EDC in the last space to finish the row.

Rows 5-onward: Rep row 4 for as wide as you want your granny square to be. Each row will grow with 1 additional granny cluster. The square in the video is 6 rows wide.

Decrease Row 1: Ch 3 and turn. Skip the first space and make 1 granny cluster in between the granny clusters of the previous row and 1 EDC in the last space to finish the row.

Rep this row until only 1 granny cluster remains.

Last Row: Ch 1 and turn. Make 1 DC in the last space. Fasten off and cut the yarn.

For the border,

Attach the yarn to the corner space of the last row.

Border Row: Ch 3 (this counts as 1 DC) and make 1 DC in the same space. In each side space, make 2 DC. In the corner spaces, make (2 DC, ch 3, 2 DC). To finish the border row, make 2 DC in the last corner space. Ch 3 and sl st to join.

TO JOIN MY SQUARES: I used the ZigZag Join As You Go SLIP STITCH Method (see video below) but you are free to use any join you wish ๐Ÿ˜€
