USA STITCH TERMS
Hook Size(s): according to your yarn - if you have naturally tighter tension, you may wish to go up a hook size for this pattern
For my sample in the photos / video, I used 6 balls of Lion Brand Landscapes in βCoral Reefβ with a 6.5mm Hook
Abbreviations:
Β· Ch = Chain
Β· Ch sp = Chain space
Β· SC = Single crochet
Β· Sl st = Slip stitch
Β· Rep = Repeat
Β· Inc = Increase
Β· St = Stitch
Pattern for Shawl:
Foundation Row:
Magic loop or ch 4 and sl st to join.
Row 1:
Ch 1, 2 SC, ch 2, and 2 SC.
Row 2:
Ch 1 and turn. 2SC inc in the first st, ch 1, skip 1 st, (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC) in the ch 2 sp, ch 1, skip 1 st, and 2SC inc in the last st.
Row 3:
Ch 1 and turn. 2SC inc in the first st, ch 1, 1 SC in ch sp, ch 1, (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC) in the ch 2 sp, ch 1, 1 SC in ch sp, ch 1, and 2SC inc in the last st.
Row 4-onward:
Ch 1 and turn. Make 2SC inc in the first and last st of the row. In between, rep *ch 1, 1 SC in ch sp* across. For the ch 2 sp, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC).
You will rep row 4 until you reach the desired size of your shawl.
Border Row 1:
Ch 2 to turn and start working the flat end of the shawl. Make 1 SC in the first space and in the end of each row across. At the magic loop part, make a ch 1 and continue across.
When you reach the other end, ch 2 and sl st to the first SC of the row.
Border Row 2:
Ch 2 and turn. Sl st into the ch 2 sp. Ch 1 and make (2 SC, ch 2, 1 SC) in the same space.
Make 1 SC in each st across the bottom. In the ch 2 sp at the other end, make (1 SC, ch 2, 2 SC). For this row, youβll continue along the other sides of the shawl. Make 1 SC in each st and ch sp across. For the ch 2 sp which makes the turning, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC) as you usually do.
At the end, sl st to join.
Border Row 3:
Ch 1 and turn. Make 1 SC in each st across.
For the ch 2 sp which makes each turning, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC). At the end, sl st to join.
You can crochet as many border rows as you like and add tassels once youβre done.
