May 19 Crochet Interlocking Shell Stitch [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

For my sample in the video, I used Caron Simply Soft in colours Heather, Bone, Off White & White with a 6mm hook.

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain
Tog = Together
SC = Single crochet
DC = Double crochet
Rep = Repeat
St = Stitch

Special Stitch: Double Crochet 5 Together: DC5tog - begin each DC stitch but stop before the last yarn over of each stitch - then, once you have 5 half finished double crochet stitches hanging from your hook, yarn over and draw through all the loops on your hook. Please see video for further assistance

Pattern for Blanket:

Foundation Row: Ch multiples of 6 to make the blanket as large as you’d like and plus 3. For the sample, ch 24 plus 3.

Row 1: In the third ch from the hook, make 2DC inc. Rep *skip 2 st, 1 SC, skip 2 st, 5DC inc* across. Each 5DC inc is 1 shell. In the last ch of the row, make 3DC inc. If you’re changing colors, close the last DC with the new color.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Rep *1 SC, ch 2, DC5tog, ch 2* across. In the last st of the row, make 1 SC.

Row 3: Ch 3 and turn. Make 2DC inc and rep *1 SC on top of the DC5tog of the previous row, 5DC inc in the SC of the previous row* across. In the last st of the row, make 3DC inc.

Rows 4-onward: Rep rows 2 and 3, changing colours in between as you’d like.
