EASIEST Crochet Chenille Blanket!

If you have ever wanted a soft, snuggly, cosy crochet blanket then chenille yarn, velvet yarn or blanket yarns are the best! HOWEVER, they can be difficult yarns to work with so in the video below, I will show you the BEST and EASIEST crochet stitch to use with these yarns.

I will show you how to crochet BETWEEN your stitches (so no struggling to find the tops!), how to carry your yarn up the sides to avoid excess shedding of yarn tails AND how to crochet around your finished blanket to prepare for any border you fancy!

WRITTEN PATTERN

For my blanket, I used Ice Yarn Baby Chenille.

When you buy 1 pack of this yarn, it consists of 4 balls in total.

I used roughly 3 out of the 4 balls PER COLOUR in each pack - I used a little more of the white as that included the border. If substituting this yarn, please pay close attention to the yardage on your chosen yarn. My entire blanket used approximately between 1,400 - 1,600 yards of aran weight chenille yarn.

The colours I used are:

1 Pack of Baby Grey (the darkest version on the website)

1 Pack of Dark Gold

1 Pack of White

6mm Hook

My finished blanket measures approximately 37 inches wide by approximately 52 inches in length - including the border.

Stitch Abbreviations: - USA STITCH TERMS

Ch = Chain

HDC = Half Double Crochet

SC = Single Crochet

Foundation Row:

With Baby Grey, chain 94.

HDC into the 3rd ch from your hook, mark the top of the 2 skipped chains with a stitch marker. HDC into each ch along. On the very last HDC of the row, change to Dark Gold. DO NOT CUT YOUR YARN - we will be carrying the yarn up the sides of the blanket - please see the video if unsure at any point (Total of 92 stitches plus a ch2 space from your skipped chains)

Row 2:

Ch2 and turn.

HDC in-between the stitches from the row below (your very first HDC is placed in the very first space immediately after your chain 2)

Place your final HDC in-between the HDC and ch2 space from the row below. Change colour on that final stitch but do not cut your yarn.

REPEAT ROW 2 until you have 109 Rows in total.

Alternate the rows with Baby Grey, Dark Gold and White as your colour squence.

Once you have completed your last row, chain 1 and cut your yarn leaving long tails to weave in.

Weave in all your ends and grab white to crochet your border.

BORDER:

Join white to any corner stitch, ch1 and place (SC, ch2, SC) into the same stitch to form a corner.

SC in each stitch around - working (SC, Ch2, SC) into the corner stitches - Slip Stitch to join to the first SC of the round to finish. Please see the Chenille yarn video for full break down of the first row of the border including how many stitches to work down the sides and how to place them
