Crochet Smiley Face Square WRITTEN PATTERN
USA STITCH TERMS
Hook Size(s): according to your yarn
Abbreviations:
· Ch = Chain
· Inc = Increase
· SC = Single crochet
· HDC = Half double crochet
· DC = Double crochet
· Rep = Repeat
· St = Stitch
· Ch sp = Chain space
Standing Double Crochet: Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop so that there are three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over, and pull through the remaining loops.
Pattern for Square:
Make a magic circle.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC) and make 9 DC in the ring. Sl st to join. (10)
Pull the tail to close the ring.
Round 2: Ch 2 and make 1 DC in the same st. Rep *2DC inc* in each st across. Sl st to join. (20)
Round 3: Ch 2 and make 1 DC in the same st. Rep *1 DC, 2DC inc* across. Sl st to join. (30)
Round 4: Ch 2 and make 1 DC in the same st. Rep *2 DC, 2DC inc* across. Sl st to join. (40)
Fasten off and cut the yarn. Attach the second colour.
Round 5: Make (1 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in the same st. Rep *1 DC, 1 HDC, 5 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, and (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC)* three times. For the last side, make 1 DC, 1 HDC, 5 SC, 1 HDC, and 1 DC. Sl st to join.
Round 6: Ch 1 and make 1 HDC in the same st.
Round 7: Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same space and each st across. For each corner ch sp, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC). At the end of the round, sl st to join.
Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the ends.
With black yarn, embroider 2 eyes as straight lines from the middle point on the outside of Round 1 to the top of Round 2 of the yellow circle.
The smile is worked along the edge of Round 3 and the outline is worked around Round 4.
