This is a great way to use the pom pom yarn that is traditionally used in knitting to create a fab funky blanket - perfect for babies, toddlers or big kids (like me haha!) Ideal for spring babies or as a unique Easter blanket.

USA STITCH TERMS - blanket size approximately 35โ€ wide by 46โ€ long

Materials:

Scheepjes Chunky Monkey x 8 balls (or equivalent yarn to match gauge and tension)

Rico Creative Pompon Yarn x 1 ball (or any brand pom pom yarn!)

6mm Hook (optional 5mm hook for last round of border)

Ch = chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

dc = double crochet

sk = skip

st = stitch

When crocheting in between the pom poms, crochet over the cord to sandwich it in between your crochet stitches - see video

Trim off 1st 2 pom poms from pom pom yarn before you start

Pattern Multiple 6 + 4

  1. With 6mm hook and Jasmine yarn, ch 94

    dc into 4th ch from hook and in every ch til end (92 dc including the skipped 3 chains which count as a dc)

  2. ch1 (does NOT count as a stitch) lay pom pom yarn along work and dc in 1st st, sandwiching the pom pom yarn cord inbetween stitches.

    dc in next st, leaving pom pom unworked and lying at the front of your work facing you

    dc in next 5 stitches, working over pom pom yarn cord

    *dc in next st leaving pom pom unworked, dc in next 5 st working over the cord* repeat until final st.

    On final st, dc into the ch3 from row below, leaving pom pom unworked BUT sandwiching the cord immediately to the left of the pom pom

  3. ch1 (does not count), float cord up the side of blanket and lay along your work.

    dc in 1st 3 stitches, working over cord.

    *dc in next st leaving pom pom unworked (push this pom pom to the back of your work so all pom poms are on the same side), dc in next 5 st working over the cord* repeat until final 4 stitches. End on dc in last 4 stitches.

  4. REPEAT ROW 2 but end with final dc into top of stitch (there will be no ch3 to work into)

  5. REPEAT ROW 3

Repeat Rows 4 & 5 until you have 69 rows in total

FINAL ROW OF BLANKET - Row 70

Trim 2 pom poms off the end of the yarn attached to the ball, as you did in the beginning to leave a tail. BE CAREFUL when trimming the pom poms that you do no accidentally cut the yarn itself.

Ch1, (does not count) and dc in each stitch along to finish.

BORDER: border uses MIXED stitches to create width on the side sections

With right side of work facing you, attach yarn to the 1st stitch of last row (top right hand corner)

    2dc in each row down the side ending with (dc, ch2, sc) in last st

    sc in each st across row. End on (sc, ch2, DC) in last st.

    2dc in each row back up the side (sandwiching pom pom yarn tails in as you go) ending with (dc, ch2) in same st as inital sc of the round. Slip stitch to join to 1st sc.

  2. ch1 (does not count) sc in same stitch. sc in each st across top row. End on (sc, ch2, HDC) in ch2 space of round below
