Crochet Circle in a Square [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

A fab little twist on the traditional granny square! How to crochet a circle in a square :-) This simple pattern works with any yarn and is easy for beginners.

Crochet Circle in a Square WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

You can use any yarn and hook you would like.

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

I used Scheepjes River Washed in shades: 946 Mississippi, 943 Mekong & 950 Wheaton and a 4mm G crochet hook.

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain

DC= Double Crochet

TR= Treble Crochet

St = Stitch

Sl St = Slip Stitch

Using 1st Colour

Foundation Ring: Ch 3 (Counts as first DC)

Place 11 DC inside ring

Sl st to beginning Ch 3 (12 DC total)

Tie off.

Using 2nd Colour

Round 2: Pick a stitch, attach yarn.

Ch 3 (Counts as first DC) DC in same st

Repeat Ch 1, 2DC into next st. around

Sl st to beginning Ch 3 (24 DC total)

Tie off.

Using 3rd Colour

Round 3: Pick a Ch 1 space, attach yarn.

Ch 3 (Counts as first DC) 2DC in same sp.

Repeat Ch 1, 3DC into the next Ch 1 sp. around

Sl st to beginning Ch 3 (36 DC total)

Using 4th Colour

Round 4: Pick a Ch 1 space, attach yarn.

Ch 4 (Counts as first TR) 2TR in same sp. Ch 3, Place 3TR into same sp. (Creates corner)

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3TR into next Ch 1 sp. Ch 3, Place 3TR into same sp. (Creates corner)

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3TR into next Ch 1 sp. Ch 3, Place 3TR into same sp. (Creates corner)

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3TR into next Ch 1 sp. Ch 3, Place 3TR into same sp. (Creates corner)

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Ch 1, 3DC into next Ch 1 sp.

Sl st to beginning Ch 4

Tie off, and weave in any loose ends.
