You can use any yarn and hook you would like, below is what I used for my scarf.
Yarn: Chunky (Scheepjes Namaste)
Hook Size(s): 9mm
I used 2.5 x Balls of Scheepjes Namaste Yarn with a 9mm Hook in the shade “Plow”
The weight and drape of the yarn make it quite stretchy and hard to measure but my personal scarf is approximately 7 inches (18cm) wide and 95 inches (240cm) long.
Abbreviations:
• Ch = Chain
• DC = Double Crochet
• St = Stitch
Foundation: Chain in Multiples of 2 to create the width you would like then add 6 chains at the very end.
I chained 26 for my scarf.
Row 1: Working into the back bumps of the Ch, DC in the 6th Ch from hook. * Ch1, skip 1, DC in the next * across the row
Row 2: Ch 3, turn work. (Ch3 counts as a DC + 1 Ch)
DC into the top of the first DC from the row below.
Repeat * Ch1, Skip ch1 space, DC into top of the DC from the row below * until last 2 sts.
Ch1, DC in 2nd Ch of the turning chain from the row below.
Repeat Row 3 until you reach the length you desire. Feel free to change colour, on any row that you want.
Once your scarf is the correct length, after your final stitch, Ch1 and cut your yarn.
Weave in any loose ends.
