Crochet a Bunny from a Square! [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Crochet Bunny WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Use any yarn you wish, use a slightly smaller hook than the yarn recommends to keep your stitches tight

I used a double-knit yarn with a 3.5mm E Hook.

Other Materials:

Black yarn to embroider the eyes

Pink yarn to embroider the nose

Poly-Fil

3 Stitch Markers

Abbreviations:

• Ch = Chain

• SC = Single Crochet

• St = Stitch

Bunny Pattern

Ch 26

Row 1: SC in the 2nd Ch from your hook.

SC in each Ch across. (25 SC)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn.

SC in each St across. (25 SC)

Repeat Row 2 until you have a square.

You can check to see if you have a square, by folding your piece diagonally- it will create a neat triangle. All your points will line up perfectly.

Once you reach the rows needed to create a square, tie off leaving a long tail.

Folding to create Bunny

Fold your square upward to form a rectangle. Create a crease so that when you unfold you can see the fold line.

Add one stitch marker to each side of that crease line. This shows us the half way point of our square. (Middle Crease)

Fold your square long ways (right side laying over left side) create a crease. (Top to Bottom Crease)

Add one stitch marker in the top of that crease line.

Sewing Bunny

Grab a long length of the same yarn you used to create your square.

Thread your yarn onto a darning needle.

Insert needle through the right side middle stitch marker.

Create a running stitch to the stitch marker on the other side. (Middle Crease)

Once you reach the other side of the middle crease, we are going to create a running stitch to the top stitch marker going in a diagonal line.

Then going back down in a diagonal line to where you first started. (Right side middle crease)

Grab your two yarn tails, and pull. This will cinch your square, and it will create a little bubble.

Don’t cinch all the way closed- stop to grab a little bit of poly-fil stuffing.

Pull your tails to close the opening.

Knot to secure.

If you have a little opening from the bunny head, sew the opening closed with your yarn tail.

Sew the two edges of the bottom half of your square together. This will create the bunny body.

Stuff the body will poly-fil stuffing.

Sew the bottom opening, going in the front loop of each stitch around and cinch closed. Knot to secure, and tie off.

Eyes & Nose

Thread black yarn on needle, insert into the head where you want to place your first eye.

I create a straight line, pop my needle out where I want the other eye.

Create straight line.

Do a couple lines per eye, tie off.

Thread pink yarn on needle, insert into the head where you want to place your nose.

Do a couple lines side to side.

Do a line down, then up into the side lines and through the head.

Tie off.

Feel free to add a Pom Pom for a tail. You can glue these on or sew them on.
