Crochet Pastel Circle in a Square Motif

Learn how to crochet this very simple yet effective ombre pastel Circle in a Square motif. With it's very pretty lacy scalloped edging, it would make for the most beautiful baby blanket or throw. Super easy pattern!

In the YouTube video, I also show you how to join as you go (JAYG method) for joining these squares. This pattern works with ANY YARN and ANY HOOK SIZE 😉

📌 MATERIALS:

4mm Crochet Hook

Yarn used: Stylecraft Special DK

Shades: (in order from yellow center of circle outwards) Lemon, Apricot, Candyfloss, Clematis, Wisteria, White (or Palma Violet as shown in video)

📌 Pattern:

Round 1

into a Magic Ring, Chain 3 (counts as dc + ch1) then *dc, ch1* x 11. Join with a slip stitch to 2nd ch of initial ch3. 

{12 dc + 12 ch1 spaces}

Round 2

Join new colour to any ch1 space from round below.

Ch2 (counts as dc) dc into same space, ch1. Then *2dc, ch1* in each ch1 sp from the round below. Join with ss to top of initial ch2. 

{12 groups of 2dc + 12 ch1 spaces}

Round 3

Join new colour to any ch1 space from round below.

Ch2 (counts as dc) 2dc into same space, ch1. Then *3dc, ch1* in each ch1 sp from the round below. Join with ss to top of initial ch2.

{12 groups of 3dc + 12 ch1 spaces}

Round 4

Join new colour to any ch1 space from round below.

Ch2 (counts as dc) 3dc into same space, ch1. Then *4dc, ch1* in each ch1 sp from the round below. Join with ss to top of initial ch2.

{12 groups of 4dc + 12 ch1 spaces}

Round 5

Join new colour to any ch1 space from round below.

Ch2 (counts as dc) 4dc into same space, ch1. Then *5dc, ch1* in each ch1 sp from the round below. Join with ss to top of initial ch2.

{12 groups of 5dc + 12 ch1 spaces}

Round 6

Join new colour to any ch1 space from round below. This round turns your circle into a square. To join as you go, on the sides, substitute out ch1 for ss. ( ch1, ss, ch1 for corners)

Ch2 (counts as dc) 3dc into same space, ch1. 4dc, ch1 into next ch1 sp (SIDE). 4tr, ch3, 4tr, ch1 into next ch1 sp (CORNER)

*[4dc, ch1(SIDE)], [4dc, ch1 (SIDE)], [4tr, ch3, 4tr, ch1 (CORNER)]*  til end, join with ss to top of initial ch2.
